In science we have been learning about the respiratory system. The respiratory system is a system that helps your breathing. Some examples are lungs, diaphragm, etc. During read aloud, we've read a good book called The Pet Wars by Allan Woodrow. It is a 262 page realistic fiction book that we strongly recommend to pet lovers. What happens in this book is a brother and sister, who wants different pets, make a deal to see who can earn $500 first. During reading workshop, we are doing different stations such as word ladder, cursive writing, and reader's theater. A reader's theater is 8 or so people that perform a theater with lines. In writing, we have been working on a debate about chocolate milk in schools. We also had to decide if we were for or against. Then write a persuasive essay. During January 14-16, play auditions will be held in the music room. We have gotten a letter home asking you to arrive 10 minutes before your audition. There will also be chairs outside the music room. During auditions, you and your partner will be asked to read from the lines you got in your mailbox. You will also be asked to sing, "My Country tis of Thee". Auditions are not about competitions so relax and have fun. Break a leg! On Tuesday, January 28th we will have our winter concert. There will be 5th grade band, 5th grade orchestra, 5th grade choir, 4th grade orchestra, and 4th grade choir.

This week in school, parents stopped by to enjoy some fun days at school. We were busy with crayfish. We also faced off in an intense jeopardy game. Kids vs. Parents. We also set up a new aquarium for our crayfish. They have been enjoying the stay in the new aquarium. We also had a turkey shoot, which was exciting! And the book fair (for all the bookworms). We had fun typing our historical fiction pieces at the computer lab. We started the Western Hemisphere in social studies. We had a fun week!

Dear Fellow Classmates,
We have been doing a lot this week. It was the first time we brought out the crayfish. We learned how to hold one and some saw them eat. Did you know that crayfish have 10 legs? Eight being walking legs and two being claws/pincer. We have been working with historical fiction in writing workshop. The choices were Salem Witch Trials, Boston Tea Party, WWII/Holocust, Titanic and The Great Depression.

Greetings everyone from Ms. Bush's 5th grade class! This fall, we have started to do choir every Friday, and we have been to the computer lab writing our first free piece. Also, we are doing our reading assessments to figure out our level. We also started a book called The Mostly True Adventures of Homer P. Figg. It is about the civil war and Homer tried to save his brother. He lived in an orphanage and he escaped. Finaly, we have started October!
Sincerely,
Ms. Bush's Class
Tootles!

This week our class has been learning about Western and Eastern hemispheres. We are all getting prepared for Lip Sync, whether we are in crew or actually on stage! In art class, we are making peace flags. In P.E., we have been playing soccer, and so on. In Library, everyone is choosing great books. In music class, we are enjoying the instruments. Math classes have been fun so far. Every Friday, we do team building. The challenges are sometimes easy and sometimes hard, but are always fun! To wrap this up, we have started the school year off well!
